The British Fashion Council has announced that Nicholas Daley is the winner of 2022 BFC/GQ Designer Fashion Fund. Daley will be awarded a pro bono legal service from Sheridans, a 12-month high-level mentoring programme and a cash prize of PS150,000. The BFC/GQ Designer Fashion Fund is part of BFC Foundation.
The BFC’s Designer Initiatives team selected clothsurgeon, LYPH, and Olubiyi Thomas for this year’s shortlist. They were given the opportunity to take part in a mentorship programme, which included access to industry experts and funders as well as pro bono legal services provided by Sheridans. Clearpay generously supports the BFC/GQ Designer Menswear Fund, BFC announced in a release.
The judging panel was chaired by Caroline Rush CBE (chief executive of BFC) and Adam Baidawi (head of editorial content for British GQ & deputy global editorial director of GQ). It included representatives of businesses that support the fund, as well as industry experts, including Damien Paul – head of menswear purchasing at MatchesFashion, Laurent Malecaze – CEO of Dunhill, Laura Yeomans – market development director of Clearpay UK, Leah Abbott
The BFC/GQ Designer Fashion Fund is part of BFC Foundation which supports future growth of British fashion industry. It focuses on three areas – education, grant giving and business mentoring as well as the Institute of Positive Fashion.

Nicholas is a designer with a dizzying array of design skills, but he also has an incredible talent for curation. He brings together a wide range of collaborators and influences in order to create a modern brand. In a press release, Adam Baidawi said that he was proud to honor Nicholas. He is the head of editorial content at British GQ, and deputy global editor-in-chief for GQ.
“I feel very honored to be selected as the winner of this year’s award. I want to thank GQ, the BFC, and the industry judges panel for their selection. The funding and mentorship programme will help me to continue growing my brand in the future,” daley stated.
