H&M, the fashion brand, has launched Coexist Story, a collection of animal-friendly clothing that was approved by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), an animal rights organization. The collection, which includes womenswear for menswear as well as kidswear, combines animal-substitute materials and sustainable materials with a forward-thinking mentality.
Co-Exist Story, the third installment of H&M’s Innovation Stories initiative launched in early 2020, aims to highlight more sustainable innovations, designs and materials.
The collection includes extreme volumes, partywear with a ’90s vibe, and functional outerwear. It also features innovations like Flwrdwn (an alternative to animal down, made from wildflowers), and Vegea (a plant-based replacement for animal and oil-based leathers), the company stated in a press release.
Women’s key pieces include an Econyl-blend knitted dress in a dramatic fringed hem and an Econyl-blend faux fur overcoat in cream. A recycled nylon anorak with a graffiti print is a great example of streetwear for men. Accessories include heavy-duty rubber fishing boots in Yulex rubber for women and cosy Flwrdwn padded shoes for men. The collection includes vegan makeup certified by The Vegan Society.
Kids can choose from a range of vibrant colors in recycled nylon anoraks or Flwrdwn jackets. T-shirts, loungewear and other items are embellished with patches that proclaim their allegiance to PETA and support for its work.
The Co-Exist Story Collection is a perfect example of H&M’s commitment to explore innovative alternatives to animal-derived fabric while offering cutting-edge fashion to our customers. H&M has had a great relationship with PETA throughout the project. We are proud to support their valuable work every day.
PETA’s work is largely accomplished through positive relationships with companies like H&M, as we fight to eliminate the use of animal products. “We’re delighted to partner with H&M to create a collection of fabulous vegan designs, which are kind to the environment and the animals that live there,” said Peta corporate responsibility manager Laura Shields.
From November 4, the Co-Exist Story Collection is available in select stores and on hm.com worldwide.
