House of Baukjen, a luxury fashion brand based in London, has been named as one of 2021’s winners of the UN Global Climate Action Award. According to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the company’s operations and business follow the circular economy concept, from production and materials being recycled, while remaining carbon-negative.
Geoff von Sonsbeeck, CEO of House of Baukjen, will receive the award at a ceremony held during the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow.
Patricia Espinosa, executive secr
etary of UN Climate Change said: “We have seen many deadly wildfires and flooding in the past year.” “We need solutions and action from all: the public and private sector, civil society and academia, investors, and cities and regions. The 2021 UN Global Climate Action Awards winners provide tangible proof of solutions that can be quickly replicated to combat the climate crisis. “This is what inspiring leadership appears like.”
The 11 projects that won awards fall into three categories: Climate Neutral Now (now), Financing for Climate Friendly Investments and Climate Leaders. House of Baukjen, Microsoft and Taylors of Harrogate are among the winners of the category ‘Climate-Neutral Now.’
In recent years, the company has implemented a number changes in its materials and logistics. It has saved an average of 1,19 kg CO 2e per garment produced from Q2 2019 until Q2 2021. This represents a total of 99 tonnes carbon equivalent emissions in the first half 2021 and 74 millions litres water.
We became Carbon Negative in 2020 across our entire supply chains by analysing, reducing and offsetting carbon emissions using Gold Standard CERs and VERs. Carbon Negative?means the impact goes beyond net zero carbon emission to actually create an environment benefit by removing more carbon dioxide from atmosphere,” said the company.
